Activities in parks

Park Rangers work throughout the year to provide events and other activities in the park. With these events you can make the most of what the parks have to offer.

Events

The Rangers organise hundreds of events every year that allow people to explore and learn more about the natural environment. Guided walks, talks on conservation, demonstrations of crafts, pond dipping and butterfly watches are just a few of the things you can join in with. Extensive information related to park activities and events can be found in the Out & About booklet which is freely available from, for example, libraries, community centres and leisure centres.

You even get involved in Military Style fitness training at Canon Hill Park.

Wildlife in Birmingham ? Surely not…

There is loads of wildlife for you to get out and about and see in Birmingham. Why not head down to the Nature Centre on Pershore Road and see a Red Panda, or to Woodgate Valley country park, and explore the fields and hedgerows for wildlife. Over 250 species of plants have been found at Woodgate Valley, the damp meadow areas being especially rich and producing wonderful displays of wild flowers in spring and summer. The meadows also attract many kinds of butterflies. Over eighty species of birds have also been recorded in the park.

Flying Your Kite

There are loads of spaces you can fly your kites in Birmingham.

Remember, the best places are in the wide and open.

If you try and fly your kite near trees not only will the wind be swirling around and blocked off, but your might get your kite stuck there!

Leave plenty of space between yourself and other people, you don’t want to crash land your kite onto someone’s head.

NEVER fly your kite near power cables.

NEVER fly your kite in a storm.

Franklin got very lucky, you might not!
